What's a Referendum? Your Guide to My Virtual Doctor

Next week, from Feb. 12 to Feb. 14, the OTSU's Annual General Elections will see students take to the polls and excercise their civic right in choosing who they want representing their needs as an Ontario Tech student.

This year, there will be a referendum question on the ballot that all students are being asked to answer. This short guide will tell you everything you need to know to make an informded decision. If you have any quesions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at otsu@ontariotechu.ca.

What's a Referendum?

  • A vote by all eligible voting members where they can decide on an important question.


2024 Referendum Question

  • Do you support the OTSU providing “My Virtual Doctor”, an online service ($44.07/ annually) that provides students and their dependent(s) access to 24/7 virtual health care anywhere in Canada with a medical professional to provide appropriate care, which can be opted-out of?


What's my Virtual Doctor?

  • myvirtualdoctor – Virtual Health Care
  • The Ontario Tech Student Union would like to provide eligible students with a virtual health care service which includes unlimited 24/7 access to licensed healthcare professionals such as nurses and doctors, known as myvirtualdoctor.

How Will My Virtual Doctor Help Eligible Students?

  • My Virtual Doctor provides domestic and international students and their immediate families with individual access to qualified medical care through a virtual platform 24/7 to address many of the common concerns faced by students.


How Much Is It?

  • The Virtual Care Program costs $44.00 that will be billed annually with your tuition.
  • During the annual opt-out period, students may choose to opt-out from this service without any conditions and will receive a full refund.


“My Vote Doesn't Matter”

  • WHAT?! NO! Please, Vote! Vote! Vote! This is your opportunity to enact the change you want to see on campus and improve the services available for all eligible Ontario Tech students.

Okay Fine, How Do I Vote?

  • Voting is online, (yay Tech University!) You will receive an email with the voting link to your @ontariotechu.net email address. You can also access the voting link from the OTSU Website, on our Instagram LinkTree at @the_otsu, or at one of our voting boths around campus during voting days.

  • If you do not have access go your own device the OTSU will be tabling on campus with technology where you can cast your vote.

  • Voting is from February 12, 2024 to February 14, 2024.
