OTSU Recruiting Downtown Campus Advisory Committee Members
Have you ever wondered how to take an idea for changing something big—something that takes several groups and organizations and a lot of people—and turn it into a course of action that benefits people for years to come?
Well guess what? YOU CAN AT THE OTSU!
Right now, we’re recruiting the Downtown Campus Advisory Committee (DCAC)—a Board-appointed group dedicated to that specific purpose. And we need you!
WHAT IS THE DCAC?
The DCAC operates under the OTSU as a special committee of our Board of Directors, and it serves to represent and improve the experience of students at Ontario Tech’s downtown campus. The Committee collaborates with the OTSU’s VP Downtown to engage downtown students in discussions about events, opportunities, and concerns in order to enhance various aspects of student life. This encompasses topics like:
- OTSU events/services
- Campus involvement
- New experiences
- Campus-related worries
- And more!
Essentially, the committee identifies pertinent issues and opportunities for downtown students, then offers recommendations to the OTSU on how to address those issues.
Collaborating closely with the OTSU VP Downtown, the DCAC aims to provide valuable insights into the needs and priorities of the downtown campus for overall enhancement. It provides students the chance to collaborate with OTSU representatives, executives, and Board members, fostering relationships, networks, and a better understanding of how the OTSU operates.
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES?
The term for a Committee member will be from October 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024. This term requires a commitment of just 5 hours per month, including attending one synchronous meeting each month.
To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must:
- Be a full-time student (enrolled in 3 or more courses) in good academic standing (with a cumulative GPA above 2.0)
- Belong to one of the following majors: Criminology and Justice, Legal Studies, Forensic Psychology, Communication and Digital Media Studies, Political Science, Liberal Studies, Psychology, or Education.
The Committee is composed of one member from each of the aforementioned programs (8 in total). Preference will be granted to students who are majoring in one of the above fields, but any student who has designated one of them as a minor is strongly encouraged to apply as well!

“The Downtown Campus Advisory Committee is one of the most insightful experiences I've had at the university! It was an excellent opportunity as a first year to get to know upper year students in my faculty and a great way to find out what downtown opportunities are available. I would go ahead and recommend the committee to any student who is curious about what happens downtown or has any opinions surrounding the downtown campus experience they would like to voice, to come attend one of our meetings and hopefully join us! ”— Celine Jahan
